Dragon
Angel Tai Characters
Dragons
The Dragons are an ancient reptilian race sworn to protect
the humans. As the legend goes, the Dragons were responsible for
the defeat of the last Enslaver, Xu, trapping him in an alternate
dimension and sealing the gate with the mystical Dragon Seal. The
Dragons continue to serve the human race and defend the Seal. The
Dragon race itself lives in Dragon Village, a hundred miles west
of Sakura City. There, the Dragon Elder still dispatches young Dragons
on their coming-of-age journies to the outside world. The Dragons
also have several secret human liaisons in the cities.
The Komodo Corporation
The largest corporation in Sakura City, the Komodo Corporation
is largely responsible for advanced robotic technology for the military
and other purposes. From the Komodo Skytower, they command an empire
that essentially owns Sakura City. The organization is led by the
ruthless "Old Man" Nakamura, an elderly technocrat that
built the corporation from the ground up and who is kept alive by
Dr. Khan's machines. As the "Old Man" recognizes his own
mortality, he calls upon his son Shen, the heir apparent to the
Komodo Corporation, to break the Dragon Seal. For therein lies Xu,
the great bringer of immortality... or so the legend goes.
The Sakura City Police
Enforcers
The Sakura City Police Enforcers (SCPE) are the main police
faction in Sakura City. They are led by Commander Von Gauss. Once
a proud and prosperous government institution, the SCPE has fallen
on hard times due to the heavy influence of the Komodo Corporation.
Because the Komodo financially support Sakura City, the SCPE is
prevented from investigating the criminal practices they are so
frequently accused of, much to the frustration of Von Gauss.
Tai
Tai, also known as Chiisai to her closest friends,
is the only female Dragon in Sakura City. Verily, she is the strongest
female that the Dragon species has produced since the current Dragon
Elder. A devoted scholar and disciplined fighter, Tai is participating
in her coming-of-age Journey that takes her to Sakura City, by the
order of the Dragon Elder, to do good and protect the humans.
Little is she aware of what the forces of evil
have in store for her there. At first, Tai is astonished by the
marvelous technological world, but her mentor Ryu Yamada and her
robotic friend Diode quickly acclimate her to the new suroundings.
Today, Tai fights against the Komodo Corporation to prevent them
from gathering up the elemental Runes and freeing Xu.
Although she comes across as humble and disciplined,
Tai has a definite wild side that only her lucky koibito Kel truly
knows about.

Kel
Kel is the childhood friend of Tai and Akira
and is the youngest of the three. Kel has a kind and gentle spirit,
but hell hath no fury like Kel defending his friends. He is generally
thought of as Tai's koibito (boyfriend).
He came to Sakura City about two years prior
to Tai's arrival. In that time, he has come to realize the traitorous
nature of Akira and the cruel actions of the Komodo Corporation.
His current whereabouts in Sakura City are unknown.

Diode
Diode is a utility robot originally destined
for the great scrap heap in the sky, but was recovered by Ryu Yamada
and reassembled at the Dragon Sanctuary to be a household robot.
Ryu had found Diode in a scrap pile. It is unknown who Diode's original
creator was.
Although he appears to be like any ordinary
utility robot, Diode seems to possess a significant array of strange
abilities, from emotions to the ability to break locks and take
control of other robots. Now he is Tai's wisecracking partner in
battle and he is of great usefulness when it comes to tackling the
immensely technological world Tai has to face.

Ryu Yamada
An elderly sensei, Ryu Yamada has traveled the
world and hiked along countless trails in his lifetime. He is one
of the few humans to have accidentally stumbled upon Dragon Village,
where he befriended the Dragon Elder and became the official human-Dragon
liaison to Sakura City. There, he oversees the Dragon Sanctuary
and secretly trains Dragons.
In addition to being a sensei, Ryu is also handy
with machines and robotics. Having located Diode in a scrap heap,
Ryu was able to reassemble the robot in a weekend and gained a useful
work partner.
He is currently serving as Tai's mentor. Whereas
Kel and Akira left on their own volition, Tai decided to stay with
Ryu.

Dragon Elder
The Dragon Elder is an ancient Dragon nearing
the three hundreth year of her life. She presides as the matriarch
of the Dragon race in Dragon Village, where she meditates and guides
the species.
She is also the keeper of the Wood Rune, one
of the elemental Runes needed to unlock the Dragon Seal. The other
Runes are scattered in the vicinity of Sakura City.
The Dragon Elder is responsible for dispatching
Tai, Kel, Akira, (and soon Midori) on their respective coming-of-age
journies. She believes that the Dragons have a solemn duty to protect
and defend the human race, given that their original homeworld of
Aoi XII was destroyed as a result of the Enslavers. Her view is
contested by Akira.

Midori
Midori is the caretaker of the Dragon Elder
in the village. The youngest of the Dragons currently residing in
the village, he is scheduled to begin his Journey next year. Energetic
and very friendly, Midori has gained a reputation for being very
impressionable. When he isn't helping the Dragon Elder, Midori usually
finds himself writing or drawing. Though he is actually a homosexual
Dragon, Midori enjoys Tai's company.

Shen Nakamura
The only heir to the Komodo Corporation and
the dynasty left behind by his billionaire industrialist father,
Shen is cunning and deceptive, just like his old man.
He has been instructed by his elder, "Old
Man" Nakamura, to locate the five elemental Runes and unlock
the Dragon Seal. Driven by a legend found in an ancient text, "Old
Man" believes that the magnificant creature Xu that inhabits
the realm beyond the Dragon Seal will grant him immortality.
As his dying wish, "Old Man" ordered
his son Shen to carry out the task.
Shen has surrounded himself with the best members
of the Komodo Corporation. By his side are the mercenary duo of
"Yanagi" Kobayashi and "Ganjou" Yamamoto. His
lead scientist is the nefarious Dr. Rotwang Khan. And he has an
army of robotic drones to assist him in his quest.
Shen's zealous urge to find the Runes might
suggest he has other motivations.

"Old Man"
Nakamura
A billionaire industrialist, "Old Man"
Nakamura founded the Komodo Corporation 80 years ago in 1968. For
a long period of time, the Komodo Corporation engaged in weapon
design for the Sakura City military. But, with the advances in computing
technology in the early 21st century, Nakamura realized that the
need was present to create robotic drone laborers. This is what
he did, much to the chagrin of human workers around the world. The
profits from this operation allowed Nakamura to essentially buy
off Sakura City's political cabinet.
Yet, at the frail age of 103, Nakamura is realizing
his own immortality. Though Dr. Khan's machines work around the
clock to keep him alive, often through violent electrical stimulus
to the brain, Nakamura knows that the end is near.
Forever a believer in the occult, Nakamura believes
he has found his answer in an ancient text that described how five
elemental runes can unlock a dimensional gateway to free Xu, the
bringer of immortality. Nakamura has enlisted his son, Shen, to
fulfill his dying wish of immortality.

Akira
Akira is the eldest of the three Dragons currently
in Sakura City. He also operates as a hooded figure under the pseudonym
Sage. A childhood friend of Tai and Kel, it was often thought that
Tai would choose Akira to be her mate. His actions in Sakura City
are unbeknownst to Tai and Kel.
A philosopher amongst the Dragons, Akira has
come to the conclusion that Earth is the actual homeworld of the
Dragon race, not Aoi XII, and that they are dinosaurs evolved under
the auspices of the Enslavers. To this end, he feels the destiny
of the Dragons is to retake Earth and make the humans subservient
to them.
Critical to achieving this corrupt goal, in
his mind, is the release of Xu and the breaking of the Dragon Seal.
For these reasons, Akira has forged an alliance with the Komodo
Corporation to find the remaining Runes and utilize Dr. Khan's terrifying
Ethermach Device to harness their transdimensional power.
An extremely powerful magic wielder and effective
swordsdragon, Akira is a serious match even for the strong Tai.

"Yanagi"
Kobayashi
The brainy half of the Shadow Mercenaries goes
by the nickname "Yanagi." His actual first name is unknown.
A notorious computer hacker, Yanagi was responsible for the great
Sakura City power outage of 2032 AD, although the SCPE never connected
him to the crime. Since then, many computing oddities - from the
traffic light malfunctions to robots turning against their creators
- are the malicious work of Yanagi.
Yanagi, along with his partner in crime "Ganjou"
Yamamoto, have been enlisted by Shen Nakamura to assist him in locating
the five elemental Runes needed to unlock the secret of immortality.
Though physically weak, Yanagi is extremely
dangerous with guns and computers. He can unleash untold terror
with a simple laptop, and his technical wizardry often confuses
Tai. Fortunately, Diode is there to tackle this menace.

"Ganjou"
Yamamoto
Yanagi and Ganjou make up the duo known as the
Shadow Mercenaries, under contract by Shen Nakamura to find the
five elemental Runes. Of the two, Ganjou is the brawny one. Much
like Yanagi, "Ganjou" is only a nickname. His real first
name is unknown.
Ganjou never speaks and prefers to let his strength
do the talking. It is unclear if he is mute or not. Nevertheless,
this giant literally towers over the other humans.

Commander
Von Gauss
Von Gauss became the Commander of the Sakura
City Police Enforcers in 2034 A.D. After the previous Commander
expressed frustration in being unable to investigate the Komodo
Corporation's role in the great Sakura City blackout of 2032 A.D.,
he stepped down. Having originally led a British police bureau,
Von Gauss took the job, where he now feels the same frustrations
as his predecessor.
Von Gauss has a love-hate relationship with
the vigilante work of Tai. On one hand, he feels Tai jeopardizes
the existence of the SCPE and her maverick natures makes her a criminal
to be arrested. On the other hand, he realizes that she might be
the city's only hope against the Komodo Corporation.

Yuki Yamada
Yuki is the only daughter of Ryu Yamada. Her
mother died shortly after he birth and, as a result, Yuki barely
knew her and was raised by Ryu. She graduated college with a degree
in criminal science and shortly thereafter joined the Sakura City
Police Enforcers as a communications officer, although she is known
to patrol due to the recent budget cutbacks at the SCPE.
Being a communications officer gives Yuki the
ability to inform the Dragons on what's happening in Sakura City
so they can get to criminal locations, often before the SCPE shows
up. Her assisting the Dragons also extends to providing battle armor
for them. Yuki manages to help the Dragons quietly and without the
detection of her superior, Commander Von Gauss.
